Who We Are
The Ecosystem Collective is a supportive network that puts rural businesses at the forefront of addressing climate change. We harness social innovation and enterprise to fund mission-driven work in rural and remote communities. Our members work across sectors to build creative and custom nature-based climate solutions, with a current focus on forest protection, restoration and climate-smart management.
Our projects use natural ecosystems to mitigate climate change and generate new economic opportunities for rural communities.

Forest Restoration and Management
Trees are a powerful, low-cost solution to carbon sequestration. We plant a diversity of climate-resilient native trees and employ legal tools to ensure that they are protected from future clearing.
Carbon Consulting and Supply Chain Design
We help municipalities, governments, companies and forest owners understand the opportunities and challenges of fighting climate change with forests and find markets for forest products that come from well-managed forests.
Carbon Offsets and Land Conservation
We have worked with climate-conscious companies to protect more than 1,200 acres of mature forest in Atlantic Canada by creating carbon offsets. We take pride in high-integrity projects that have lasting climate benefit.

Our Partners
The Ecosystem Collective began as a project of Community Forests International, a registered charity based in Sackville, NB.
Atlantic Canada receives less than 3% of funding for environmental activities across the country. And, environmental philanthropy accounts for just 2% of all philanthropy in this region.
The Ecosystem Collective was born out of a need to find enterprising ways to fund the important work that we do. We are endlessly grateful for the thoughtful support of the foundations and organizations that recognized the value in our mission and vision: the J.W. McConnell Foundation, the Canadian Workers Cooperative Federation, The Cooperators, and Innoweave.
